Student Advisory Council

                                                                                         Regular meeting

                                                                                                    November 16, 2021

The 2021/2022 Student Advisory Council (SAC) met in regular session on Tuesday, November 16, 2021, in the Council chamber, 2nd Floor, City Hall, 555 South Washington Avenue, Titusville, Florida. 

Co-Chairperson Ben Hamilton called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m. 

Present were Co-Chairperson Ben Hamilton, Vice-Chairperson Savannah Sevor, Secretary Edie Pringle, and Members Callie Cerrato, Aliyah Deimeke, Richie Dobbs, Addison Flake, Ben Hamilton, Victoria Hillery, Julia Moon and Aiden Sperr. 

Co-Chairperson Emilee Ellis and Co-Chairperson Jacob Phillips were absent.

Also present were Astronaut High School (AHS) Advisor Christina Cerrato, North Brevard Home School Association (NBHSA) Advisor Julie Pringle, City staff liaison Emily Campbell, and Assistant City Clerk Jolynn Donhoff (former City liaison).

MINUTES                                                   

Motion

Vice-Chairperson Savannah Sevor moved to approve the minutes of the regular Student Advisory Council (SAC) meeting on October 19, 2021, as written. Member Aiden Sperr seconded the motion and it carried unanimously.


NEW BUSINESS- None. 


OLD BUSINESS 

Improve the DrinkDriveDie.com Webpage and Initiate Related Projects, such as continue to update the 2008 Last Dance Prom Video – City Digital Media Compliance Specialist Kurtis Korwan worked with Member Cerrato and Member Moon on November 3, 2021 updating The Last Dance video script. The script was completed and will need Council’s review and approval to move forward and establish a timeline to complete the project. 

City Digital Media Compliance Specialist Kurtis Korwan reviewed the script with council. Member Aiden Sperr asked if the script could be edited during production if council wanted to change anything. Mr. Korwin stated that the dialogue could be minimally changed if needed. 

 

Motion: Member Edie Pringle moved to approve The Last Dance Prom Video script. Member Aliyah Deimeke seconded the motion and it carried unanimously.

 

City Digital Media Compliance Specialist Kurtis Korwan distributed a handout that highlighted as follows:

Member Callie Cerrato asked if she could be more than one part of production. City Digital Media Compliance Specialist Kurtis Korwan stated that as long as she was not over working herself she could do more than one part. Member Callie Cerrato stated that she would like to be in Astronaut High School liaison for the video. 

Member Aliyah Deimeke stated that she would be a casting volunteer.

Member Aiden Sperr stated that Co-Chairperson Jacob Phillips would be a good liaison for Titusville High School.

Council came to a consensus to allow themselves time to look over the different positions and discuss again at the December 21, 2021 meeting.


Host the Community Service Earthwise event in the fall of 2021 - In September, your Council tentatively rescheduled the beach clean-up on November 13, 2021 at 8:00 a.m. Council will need a summary of this even for the semi-annual report in April of 2022.

Member Edie Pringle reviewed the beach cleanup and stated that is was successful and she would like council to hold another one in the future. 

Member Edie Pringle stated that she would write the summary for the Semi-Annual Report to City Council.

Member Aliyah Deimeke stated that she would present the report to City Council.  

Motion: Vice-Chairperson Savannah Sevor moved to approve Edie Pringle to write the summary for the semi-annual report for City Council. Member Aiden Sperr seconded the motion and it carried unanimously. 

Motion: Member Aiden Sperr moved to approve Member Aliyah Deimeke to present the report to City Council. Member Julia Moon seconded the motion and it carried unanimously. 


Host a Youth Leadership Seminar in Spring of 2022 – The request was for Council to continue planning using the planning guide that was included in the agenda packet.

Council reviewed the planning guide and discussed who they would chose for the facilitator and guest speakers. 

Vice-Chairperson Savannah Sevor suggested that council could facilitate the event themselves. Council agreed and they chose to facilitate the youth leadership seminar themselves. 

Member Edie Pringle stated that Keep Brevard Beautiful has not replied to her email yet.

Member Callie Cerrato stated that she would reach out to the House of Askelon for a guest speaker by next meeting.

 Astronaut High Schools advisor Ms. Cerrato stated that she would reach out to Jarrod Bayles as another option for a guest speaker. 


Florida League of Cities Municipal Youth Photo Contest – Vice-Chairperson Sevor provided a status update on this extra goal.

 Vice-Chair Sevor stated that there was no update yet from the Florida League of Cities Municipal Photo Contest and they only did a video contest this year but she would keep council updated.


MEMBER REPORTS – None.


STAFF LIASON REPORT  

Action items: 

1. December 2021 Student Advisory Council Meeting – Council came to a consensus to keep their December 21, 2021 meeting at the Fire Department in the multipurpose room.


Informational Items:

  1. Council Budget – The available funding for SAC projects (Projects account nos. GFCC01 and GFCC04) was included in the agenda packet. 
  2. Polo Shirt Order Form – City Liaison Emily Campbell will distribute shirts for new members.
  3. Media Waiver Release – If council did not, please submit your completed form (included in the orientation packet) to City staff Liaison Emily Campbell. 
  4. Meeting Agendas & Delivery Methods – Following the first SAC meeting on August 17, 2021, the monthly SAC meeting agenda would be emailed to you at least five (5) calendar days prior to each meeting; however, the City liaison sometimes has trouble with emails being undeliverable. Please note: It is SAC Members’ responsibility to get the agenda and review it prior to your meetings (to prepare for discussions, ideas, voting, etc.).
