Titusville Police Detectives have arrested a 14-year-old suspect in connection with the shooting death of 17-year old Mercutio Nicholias Burford which occurred on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at approximately 1 PM.
Laneitri L. Rollins, 14, of Mims has been charged with 1st Degree Murder.
The preliminary investigation revealed Rollins fatally shot the victim near the bike trail just across the highway from Parrish Medical Center.
Detectives released a description of the suspect based on witness accounts and investigative tips.
Investigative evidence resulted in the subsequent arrest of Rollins who was located near the 400 block of North Dixie Highway this afternoon, February 11, 2022 at approximately 1:30 PM.
Based on the initial evidence, detectives believe this was not a random crime and Rollins knew the victim.
Rollins was taken into custody by police and transferred to the Brevard County Detention Center.
This remains an open and active investigation and further details will be released upon its conclusion.
