Woman Charged with the Murder of a Child

Titusville Police Department Posted on September 11, 2021

A local woman was charged on Friday, September 10, 2021 in connection to the death of a 4-year-old child who was in her care.

 

Lakeisha Sonyae Mitchell, 41, of Titusvillewas charged with First-Degree Murder.

 

At approximately 5:40 PM on Monday, August 23, 2021, Titusville Police responded to a report of an unresponsive child at a residence on the 1000 block of Queen Street. The child was transported to a local hospital with life- threatening injuries.

 

Mitchell was taken into to custody at the home that evening without incident.

 

Mitchell was initially charged with Aggregated Child Neglect with Great Bodily Harm and booked into the Brevard County Jail without bond.

 

The child was pronounced deceased on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at approximately 10 AM, which prompted the addition of the First-Degree Murder charge along with significant investigative evidence. 

 

This remains an ongoing investigation and more details will be released upon its conclusion.
