We would like to provide our community with an update regarding the February 7, 2025, officer-involved shooting.
As shared in our April 21, 2025, update, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) concluded its investigation and began its internal review process.
On May 8, 2025, FDLE Resident Agent in Charge Ryan Bliss stated, “The investigative summary is in the final stages of approval and still needs to be reviewed by the Regional Legal Advisor before being released to the Eighteenth Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office for a decision to be rendered in the use of deadly force”.
We understand the growing frustration surrounding the time that this process is taking and even share in these frustrations. We assure you that this timeline is not a reflection of inaction, but of the careful and thorough work that must occur when investigating a critical incident of this nature.
As previously stated, all videos from this incident will be released when the State Attorney’s Office reviews the case and makes a decision on this case. Mr. Charles’ family will be the first to be contacted regarding these findings and will be given the opportunity to view the videos before they are made public.
We remain committed to being transparent throughout this entire process which is the main reason for having an independent investigation conducted by FDLE. We appreciate your patience as this process moves toward its conclusion
