Shoreline Protection

The City adopted an ordinance to regulate development along the shoreline in an effort to better protect the water quality of the Indian River Lagoon, as well as the shoreline and upland structures.

Ordinance

The Shoreline Protection Ordinance:

  • Amends regulations applicable to bulkheads and seawalls
  • Minimizes automobile-related runoff near the water’s edge
  • Proposes alternative shoreline stabilization structures
  • Sets forth standards for waterfront setbacks for septic systems and on-site treatment systems
  • Sets a limit on the amount of impervious surface allowed within a building setback from the water
